Baarsetoya

With the sea calm we went ashore with the dinghy, finding a small pontoon we landed and pulled our dinghy up to keep it out of anyone's road. A short walk up the track road and we were at the coop, checking the fuel situation for topping up in the future, its easier to do smaller fuel journeys when we need it than to plan around fuel on the Quay etc (we found in 2014 that petrol wasn't common on the quay).
The sea was so calm that we decided to row ashore, I say we but I really mean poor Daniel was left with the rowing...I gave directions though, that must count for something! As we made our way back to the dinghy and were preparing to launch it a pretty wooden boat pulled in to the pontoon. We spoke to the friendly man who said he had just launched her and had been checking her over making sure the wood was taking up etc. He had made the boat himself, he and his father and several generations before had been involved in wooden boat building but in recent times the introduction of GRP has proved cheaper and more sought after and so he had decided to finish in the 80s. He kindly told us to use the pontoon as we needed and also suggested a nearby island which was a great place to explore.
We were spotted today by Haavard on his way to a job near Trondheim

Lovely wooden boat

Still a little anxious at the first night at anchor in a long time we headed back to the boat in an increasing wind and got aboard and set for the night. After only a few hours of getting to bed the wind got up and had changed direction compared to where it was forecasted, the joys of being on anchor!! Chain moving on the sea bed makes an uncomfortable noise and we didn't get much rest, over the next few hours though the wind dropped away to absolutely nothing. Not even a breath. Stunning scenery with the reflections in the water, we are very lucky!
Stunning calm at 4am

This morning with the wind set to turn to push us towards the shore we had a selection of places to move to that would be more sheltered and in the end we chose to go to the island the man had suggested. So we are now on one of the pontoons in Baarsetoya, which is just lovely. The small island has no inhabitants but is a popular stay for locals. The area with the pontoons has been done really nicely and in keeping with the nature of the island, with a basic composting wc, outdoor dartboard, swings, tables and benches and barbeques for all to use. Very picturesque space and we may well spend a few days here.
Big Jelly fish!

With Quickstep in in the distance

We are just about to go to the mainland and top up fuel and then probably spend the evening appreciating the surroundings, likely go for a nice walk ashore and who knows maybe even a barbeque!
