Papay Arctic Adventure 3 - Norway Winter Adventure

Our latest expedition is happening very soon!

1500+ mile winter adventure in to the Norwegian Arctic

A lot has changed since the summer of 2014 when we stood side by side aboard Quickstep in awe as Norway's complex coastline emerged out of the fog, drained from the eventful crossing each cluster of islets seemed to offer a sense of relief, we were safe.

We had no idea at that point, during our first-ever hazy glimpse of Norway that the following weeks would be so special to us that we would decide to uproot and move to the Norwegian Arctic just a few years later.

Not only did that first "Papay Arctic Adventure" cement our love for Norway and its stunning coastline but it also confirmed our love for boating, for exploring and adventure.

So it probably comes as no big surprise that we are now preparing for another adventure together. This time those long warm summer days are a world away instead we are heading into the cold polar night, where the sun fails to rise above the horizon and temperatures are measured firmly in the minus!

Winter arrives and brings with it fierce storms and bitter conditions, there are no second chances in this environment. It isn't all doom and gloom though... winter also brings the fascinating aurora borealis which twinkle and dance above the Christmas card snowy peaks, while people take shelter inside the smell of wood fires fill the air, reindeer come out in their winter whites and eagles glide over glaciers and fjords surveying their kingdoms.

Our latest adventure will see us collect a new (to us) Norwegian built Motoryacht in Oslo fjord, in the far south of Norway, voyaging along the coastline to our home above the Arctic Circle, Dyrøy. The 1500+ nautical mile journey will take us several months. Norway with the second-longest coastline in the world has more to see than a lifetime could cover, even with our several months we will only be scratching the surface.

With any adventure like this, it's impossible to say what all will be involved, but we suspect a hearty dose of snow, fjords, sea, and surprises along the way!
